What impact are you most proud of creating in your community/field?
We take pride in the influence we have on the next generation of informed, conservation-minded community members.

Our work aims to protect the future of our community’s environment by emphasizing both specific knowledge and a stewardship mindset. For one, we are nurturing a group of young people prepared to be ecologically-minded community members with a beginning understanding of resource management. Through our programs, students start to learn the science of our local watersheds and the necessity of water conservation, positioning them to be thoughtful advocates and decision-makers later in life.
Secondly, we encourage a sense of stewardship and civic duty in students, inspiring them to contribute their time and skills to their communities. Regardless of whether they choose careers in the environmental field, they gain the practical knowledge and ethic of stewardship to initiate change.

What are your priorities or hopes for the future?
Our highest priority goal for the future is to get 100% of Solano County 3rd and 6th graders outside as part of our core watershed education programs. Reaching these pivotal age groups ensures that all students gain foundational, hands-on knowledge of the specific ecosystems in their own community—from local waterways to vast marshlands. We also intend to reach every local high school with our Biomonitoring Program. This citizen and community science program empowers older students to collect real-world water quality data, fostering scientific literacy and helping them see the direct consequence of human activity on local creeks.

By establishing this educational pipeline, we are not just teaching about nature; we are actively cultivating a future where every single student becomes an informed, active steward of Solano County's natural resources.

If you had to sum up your organization in one word, what would it be and why?
Stewardship. This word captures the full scope of our work. This is why our focus is on training students to manage Solano County’s natural resources, bringing the community into our conservation work, and building partnerships that protect the future of our watersheds. It is the guiding ethic for everything we accomplish at Solano Resource Conservation District.
