Three Tracks Available to Meet Your Needs

This multi-part series has grown to meet California science educator needs and is now offering three tracks.

Year 1: My Role in Leading Change

This Session is Sold Out

  • Presenters: Dawn O'Connor, Director of Science, Alameda COE and Anthony Quan, STEM Consultant, Los Angeles COE

This session addresses how to navigate leading learning and the challenges of change that come with it. In Year 1 of Onward, you will share in learning what these roles are about and advance your professional growth while facilitating that of others.

  • Are you new to your role?
  • Never attended the Onward Pre-Conference before?

If either is true Year 1 is for you!

Year 2: Considerations for Leading Change

  • Presenters: Jo Topps, Regional Director, K-12 Alliance @ WestEd and John Spiegel, Director of Curriculum & Instruction, San Diego COE

Spend the day navigating conversations, learning who the influencers are, and how to refine your communication approach based on your audience. Work with peers who are also coaches and TOSAs with a year or more experience in the role.

  • Did you attend the Year 1 program in 2017 in Sacramento or in 2016 in Palm Springs?
  • Never played The Change Game before?

Then this is your next step!

Prerequisite: Prior Year 1 Onward Pre-Conference participation

Year 3: Leading Change Through Instructional Materials Adoption

This Session is Sold Out

  • Presenters: Karen Cerwin, Regional Director, K-12 Alliance @ WestEd and Chelsea Cochrane, Science Coordinator, San Diego COE

This session addresses the implications of coaches and TOSAs being the local guides for science instructional material selection. Before materials can even be selected for a pilot what has to happen? How does that work into your current role, and existing multi-year CA NGSS implementation plan? This session will best serve your work if you come with at least one partner.

  • Are you an experienced Coach or TOSA (two or more years in the role)?
  • Did you the attend Year 2 session during the Onward Pre-Conference event in 2017 in Sacramento?

Then this session is for you to further what you do and support newer coaches/TOSA’s as well as the classroom teachers.

Prerequisite: This new offering expands the Coach/TOSA Pre-Conference to both past attendees of Years 1 (who have two or more years of experience in their role) and Year 2 participants. TOSAs, Science Coaches, and individuals in similar roles with two or more years experience in their role are also eligible to participate. Why? So the conversations and resources can be well suited to the audience.
